Musicians shall be a fan of this when it gets released this fall. From the name it self one can figure out its a software that is going to correct the imperfect notes while music compositions. The software is precise enough to enter into a audio file and change any of the six notes of a guitar chord without altering the other ones. The software already is clever enough with digital recordings, smoothing and correcting performances. For example if the vocalist pitch gets disturbed or goes off key there are already programs form Celemony which can solve the problem by getting it right by changing the pitch high or low accordingly to get in the key. But there is a catch here they work well in case of solo performances. In case if its a rock band performance then it becomes a lot trickier.
Peter Neubacker the inventor of Direct Note Access has certainly been a pioneer in the music processing industry saving a lot of cash and making the software available at a pretty low price of $399. "Recording studios have millions of dollars’ worth of equipment that people once rented and used", he said. "Now you can buy a computer and software like this and for a few thousand dollars have more capability than the Beatles had when they did their stuff."
Just imagine the case when u could correct some track that was recorded in the past and has a defect. Neubäcker’s program is designed to tease out this musical mix of simultaneous sound and sort it into separate sonic envelopes that can then be manipulated. Our brain always does this while we are listening to music piece separating out all the notes and simultaneously. The magnitude of the task is surely pretty huge in case of a computer. The video a small demonstration of the software with some screen video. I can't just wait to get my hands on this thing. correcting music had never been so easy and more importantly so cheap.

yahoo finally talks to Google.
Monday, June 23, 2008

Recently a week after the Microsoft Yahoo mayhem, with Microsoft's plan to establish a strong hold in the on line advertisement suffered a big blow, with merger talks with Yahoo finally failing, Yahoo said that it would allow Google to sell ads on its site. Yahoo shall thus be generating revenues over $800 million annually. Google has thus made a huge strategic improvement, shutting down all the hopes of Microsoft entering into the on line space all together. Over all in the hustle and tussle between Yahoo and MIcrosoft the gainer was certainly none other than Google. After Microsoft declared the idea of buying Yahoo, the shares of yahoo came down with a crash. Microsoft any ways couldn't capitalize on this and had a minor gain.
Microsoft frustrated after the deal didn't even reconsider the earlier bid of $33 per Yahoo share. The share holders and specially Icahn was pressurizing Jerry Yand to go ahead for a deal with Microsoft, failing which he even wanted Yang to be ousted. Analyst say Yahoo and Microsoft shall not again go for another round of negotiations. It certainly seems the end of deal. Icahn on the other hand shall be trying to convince Yahoo to go ahead with the talks with Microsoft and keep up the shares, in the Annual meeting scheduled to be held this August. Google shall be a second choice.
The battle of giants here in the share market has taught many of the industry dwarfs a lesson about the importance of secrecy in a merger / acquisition phase of the deal. The two firms have proved their desperation over the issues very close to them and have set an example of how one could bring down the other by just creating a market hype.
Recently CNET has also mentioned about a web site where yahoo employees could write down their resignations to CEO Jerry Yang and thats how the Internet community has been responding in this regard. There shall be more to come up regarding the matter as time passes. May be some day one could make a web site where people could bid for Yahoo on line, (or may be i am thinking to ahead of time..). But one thing that Yahoo must now be focusing on is rather to fight back and get the shares in control. May be the spirit at this time is low but, thats what counts in an industry when there are troubles and hardships. Its shear team spirit that yahoo employees must be thinking of right now to make things going back their way.
Yahoo in a sinking ship.

With all those adds swarming in my mail boxes related to Job openings and vacancies in various companies. My list has been considerably topped with yahoo vacancies. Yahoo certainly is heading towards being a sinking ship. With the buzz spreading right from the people outside the industry to the ones pretty close to the firm, everyone knows it and have been acting accordingly. Executive turnover is a fact of the corporate life, but with pace at which the technical and the managerial heads are abandoning the (once)Internet giant things are becoming more and more difficult to cope up with.
The captains leadership and piloting skills are surely under a question. The executives who resigned carry a lot of expertise and industrial awareness out of the door. Since Microsoft walked away from the negotiating desk last May, Yahoo has been in a turmoil with shareholder mutinies, the skeptical press and now to prove it all the resignations from the key people. Jerry Yang's blood is now in the water and the sharks are circling around. Carl Icahn and other members of yahoo board are fighting for the control. But instead who would like to take the charge after Yang steps down.
Its sad to note down in the brief but impressive history of yahoo, this chapter is just about money. It will be interesting and potentially beneficial to its huge user base and 50 million shareholders if yahoo team were able to focus on the building products. Yahoo issued a statement lately on June 19th saying :
"We have a deep and talented management team across all areas of the company. Our successful implementation of our core strategies and the timely roll-out of key products this year testifies to the effectiveness of our team, and we continue to recruit outstanding talent. Yahoo continues to be a leader in our industry and remains a unique, exciting, and important place to work even as we experience the attrition that's to be expected in the Internet industry."
But the fact is that with the technical pool getting thinner day by day and its own people desolating Yahoo its becoming more and more difficult for Yahoo to recruit outstanding talent in such times of hardship.
Blogging and The First Post of its kind

That has been the starting point to all this thing on blogging. Journalism has been fascinating of a topic for me since past few years. I had never thought this could be so interesting that i shall be someday writing an entry on this topic. Well all of this started with the culture and media course that i had done in my time at IIT-Bombay. Now I have been blogging regularly and have been maintaining it properly since a pretty long time.
These days the topics have been more of like Internet and News related to technology in the news. More of it again has been on blogging itself. This space has been reserved for news that people could use and spend some time reading it on my blog. More of the emphasis shall be given on the language issues. That is where journalism comes into picture. More of it to come in the coming posts.
